Accessibility statement
Last reviewed October 7, 2026
HomeOwnio is used by homeowners of every age and ability, many of whom are reading on a phone, wearing reading glasses, or using a screen reader. We design for them first.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the HomeOwnio website and every community portal. In practice that means:
- Body text at 18 pixels or larger, with nothing smaller than 14 pixels, and pages that still work when zoomed to 400%.
- Text colors with at least 4.5:1 contrast (most body text is above 7:1), and form borders and focus outlines at 3:1 or better.
- Everything works with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline and a “Skip to main content” link.
- Every form field has a visible label, and errors are described in words, not just color.
- Buttons and links are at least 44 pixels tall on phones.
- Sign-in by emailed link, so nobody has to remember or type a password.
- Animation is kept to a minimum and turns off when your device asks for reduced motion.
How we test
Each release is checked with automated accessibility testing (axe, against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 AA rules) on our main pages, along with manual checks of keyboard use, zoom and color contrast. Our most recent automated review found no violations on the 16 pages tested. Screen reader testing with VoiceOver and NVDA is part of our release process.
We do not use accessibility “overlay” widgets. We fix the underlying pages instead.
Known limitations
- Documents your association uploads (bylaws, minutes, budgets) are the association's own files. Older documents are often scanned images without selectable text, which screen readers cannot read.
- Photos uploaded by associations may not have descriptions.
- Online dues payments are not yet available; when they are, payment pages will meet the same standard.
Ask for a document in another format
If you can't read a document in your community's portal, ask your HOA board for an accessible copy using Message the board in your portal. You can also contact us and we will help your association provide one.
Contact us
Tell us about any barrier you run into, on this site or in a community portal, using our contact form (choose “Other” as your role and describe the problem). We aim to reply within two business days.
For HOA boards: a statement you can publish
Associations using HomeOwnio may copy and adapt this short statement for their own records or website:
Our community portal is provided through HomeOwnio and is designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. If you have trouble reading any page or document, contact the board through “Message the board” in the portal, and we will provide the information in a format that works for you.
